An eerie anticipation

I head to sleep tonight with such s sense of anticipation, tinged with foreboding.   I cannot say what has prompted my very being to be so abuzz.  My muscles are tense, my heart is racing…. it’s almost as if I was preparing for fight or flight.  I’m certainly not looking for a fight!

Into the light

When did the sun become so brilliant?  My entire system was shocked by the intensity of the light. I can’t say as I have ever seen it dazzle as much as it did when we finally emerged.  Each inch of my skin felt the light bouncing off as if it were drops of rain.  Read more…

The dig is done

Well that’s that.  The dig is now done.  We certainly spent longer there than anticipated.  But it’s always “Well go right after we uncover this new spot.”  And wouldn’t you know, there was a always another new spot right after that one!  Read more…

No time to write

I know, I know.  I have not written much for days.  Truly, that is unfortunate.  But the reality is that my hours are so full of this treasure hunt that I hate to leave even a few moments of it to put the pen to paper.  Even breaking for a few hours of sleep is hard to do!  This bit of a dwelling we are excavating is just that fascinating.  Read more…

Two hunters are better than one

Wow, what a week! I’m not sure I knew true exploring until I began these spelunking adventures in earnest.  I do not mean to belittle the grand adventures I have on topsoil, but the thrill of the hunt down under the surface has been almost intoxicating.  Read more…

The hunt is on!

My skills as a trader have certainly been honed this weekend.  It’s no small task trying to outfit yourself for a specific expedition when you know that where you head is unknown and conditions can change.  Still, the adventure of preparing for the adventure was exhilarating in itself.  Finding those items you need, haggling with the shopkeepers, traders, and locals for the best deals.  Read more…

Return of the spelunker

I’m heading back in!

Yes, in — not out.  Let me back up a bit.  Yes, I finally made it out of that caves system I stumbled upon.  It took some real doing though; I estimate I was subterranean for another day and a half.  I continued to pick my way along any path with an upward bend.  Sometimes I scaled cavern walls so tall Read more…

These are the caves of my life

It is the morning of the third day in the cave.  Or possibly the evening of the second?  I admit I am not exactly sure right now; whatever delusions I had about an accurate internal clock have been quite stripped away.  At least, it’s not measuring time down in the deep, dark recesses of the earth.  Perhaps I was too prideful in my reliance on the sun and sky to mark the passage of hours and days.  Read more…

Land… er, cave of the lost

Getting lost may just be one of an explorer’s greatest joys.  And today was filled with joy!  In fact, I write this by the light of a lovely white luminescent flower that is growing beside the boulder I have claimed as my perch before bed.  There is no chance of finding my way out tonight. Digging deep

The Great Copper Rush of ’14. I wish that I could give it an auspicious moniker like that, but the fact is there was nothing terribly noteworthy about it to warrant a name. But even the mundane can be exciting in the right perspective, no?

I didn’t travel as much this last weekend to see the sights because I was in a position of needing to earn a little cash. Even a vagabond needs coin once in a while! Read more…
